R.I.P. Stan Winston

Stan Winston, possibly one of the greatest names in special effect passed away yesterday (Monday, June 16). I've been a longtime fan of his work, and he'll be missed on the big screen.

Happiest day in boat ownership...

....is when you sell it. Yeah, we sold the boat this weekend. She needed a lot of TLC after being tossed onto the beach in the storm 2 years ago and the new owner will give her that and then some. Godspeed Tinka!

Blimps!

Back in the late 80's on a trip to MIT's Media Lab, we had hoped to catch the autonomous blimps frolicking in the atrium of the Lab, while we didn't see the blimps, it was still a cool idea.

This morning I caught this video of a manta ray style blimp - and while its not autonomous, I think a few of these playing in the air would be a cool and fun project to do.

I must be in the front row!

Sunsets rule, but sunsets over water are spectacular. I thought we had a killer day when I spied a few folks still out angling as the sun headed west.

These guys had a front front row seat to a hell of a sunset. (click on the photo to really get a good look.)
